Midnight Aurora

This piece is inspired by the Aurora Borealis. I have never seen the Northern Lights before, but it has always been on my ‘bucket list.’ I made the opening rather ‘magnetic’ using the gong, prepared piano, and the seagull effect. After it gains momentum, it is almost as if there are two distinct characters in the sky, spiraling around each other in different colors. After these sections with moving and even mysterious parts, it dies down as the natural phenomenon dissipates in the night sky.

Instrumentation: Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Piano and Percussion
